In 1932 British engineer George Carwardine developed a blueprint for Anglepoise lamps using springs to balance an adjustable arm. Released in 1935 the Anglepoise Original 1227 lamp became an instant design classic – followed by Type 75 desk lamps, floor and ceiling lights. Anglepoise : a minor miracle of balance.
