Borg vs McEnroe Film Synopsis
Starring Shia LaBeouf as John McEnroe and Swedish newcomer Sverrir Gudnason as Björn Borg with Stellan Skarsgård as his coach, the film charts their intense rivalry during the 1970s and 1980s. Borg was known for his cool demeanour, whilst McEnroe was known for his fiery court-side meltdowns.
The Borg vs McEnroe film leads up to the 1980 Wimbledon final, often described as the greatest tennis match of all time (watch the legendary fourth-set tiebreak here). Mr Borg won Wimbledon five times in a row between 1976 and 1980, while Mr McEnroe later went on to win the 1981, 1983 and 1984 men’s singles finals at the All England Club.
The Sports biopic, filmed in Swedish and English, is directed by Dane Janus Metz Pedersen known for his 2010 Cannes festival war documentary Armadillo and for episodes of HBO’s True Detective.
