Blended Japanese Whisky
The Sasanokawa Shuzo’s journey as spirits producers began in 1765. The distillery is now a well-established structure, producing a large range of products including sake and shochu. Sasanokawa Shuzo joined the whisky game back in 1946 and quickly established a formidable reputation in the region that today sees them competing against Japan’s big whisky names. This very limited release gets its name from two Japanese symbols; Yama is the Japanese term for mountain, while Sakura refers to cherry-trees, symbolising ephemeral beauty. This is Yamazakura’s no-age-statement release, which boasts notes of orchard fruit, salted caramel and vanilla, and is delicate and refined in style.£9.29 per 100.00ml

Compared to its sake and suchu making Yamazakura is a relatively new offer from legendary Japanese drinks company Sasanokawa Shuzo. Whilst they started making sake in 1765 it wasn’t until almost 200 years later that they decided to try their hand at whisky. Sasanokawa Shuzo chose the name Yamazakura because it is a combination of two Japanese symbols: Yama the term for mountain, signifying the strength and poise of the spirit, and Sakura refers to cherry-trees, relating the ephemeral beauty of the stunning blossom to the quality and sophistication of the whisky.
